Sarah Berger, Ph.D.,
Director & Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Berger is a licensed clinical psychologist with over 13 years of experience. She earned her doctorate degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, Maryland.  This program emphasized the intersection of physical health and mental health and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) as a treatment modality.  Dr. Berger has trained in numerous hospitals and anxiety clinics with children and adults.  She completed her predoctoral internship at Children’s Hospital Boston, Harvard Medical School, where she worked with children and
adolescents who were hospitalized or receiving outpatient care for a range of diagnoses including pain, gastrointestinal illnesses, POTS, food allergies, and cancer.  She also worked in outpatient psychiatry treating anxiety and mood disorders or doing parent consultations.

Dr. Berger went on to complete postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Maryland Medical School and the National Institute of Child Health and Development.  For the next four years, Dr. Berger worked at the Center for Cognitive Therapy and Assessment in Falls Church Virginia under the mentorship of Dr. Katie O’Meara.  There she provided CBT therapy to children, adolescents, & adults, mostly with anxiety disorders and conducted brief assessments for independent school admission (WISC & WPPSI testing).

Dr. Berger opened Capital Psychological Services in 2014 and truly enjoys her job.  She has two active and spirited kids of her own and feels that the “parenting books” say one thing, but applying it in real life is not as simple. Parents are experts on their own kids. Dr. Berger aims to be a resource to individuals, parents, and families in how they may best adapt treatment guidelines to their own life.
